one thing i hate more than talking about politics, is talking about addiction.

most people dont know anything about addiction. it is a horrible rumor that addiction is something you bring upon yourself.

there is a whole physicalogical structure behind it.... the way your body treats the alcohol, and what becomes of it.

alcoholism is NOT THE SAME as alcohol abuse.

i think that is where many people are confused

"People who are not alcoholic sometimes do not understand why an alcoholic can’t just “use a little willpower” to stop drinking. However, alcoholism has little to do with willpower. Alcoholics are in the grip of a powerful “craving,” or uncontrollable need, for alcohol that overrides their ability to stop drinking. This need can be as strong as the need for food or water."

Alcohol abuse is defined as a pattern of drinking that results in one or more of the following situations within a 12-month period:

• Failure to fulfill major work, school, or home responsibilities;

• Drinking in situations that are physically dangerous, such as while driving a car or operating machinery;

• Having recurring alcohol-related legal problems, such as being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or for physically hurting someone while drunk; and

• Continued drinking despite having ongoing relationship problems that are caused or worsened by the drinking.

It's possible to have a problem with alcohol, but not display all the characteristics of alcoholism. This is known as "alcohol abuse," which means you engage in excessive drinking that results in health or social problems, but you aren't dependent on alcohol and haven't fully lost control over the use of alcohol.

Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive, relapsing brain disease.
People have been drinking alcohol for perhaps 15,000 years. Just drinking steadily and consistently over time can produce dependence and cause withdrawal symptoms during periods of abstinence; this physical dependence, however, is not the sole cause of alcoholism. To develop alcoholism, other factors usually come into play, including biology, genetics, culture, and psychology.

i could go on and on about all this. i suggest to anyone who wants to know about this disease and learn about the addiction to read more about it. the more you read and the "more you know" the less of an idiolistic idiot you will be...

thank you
