Wow, human beings are pretty low on my list of things I like right now. I work in a part of southern Tel Aviv that's full of horrible dance clubs. Clubs that are full of the biggest douchebags (arsim, for those who know what that means) that taxis can be sent to fetch. We have a big parking lot in front of our office building, and we've had to accept that it's just a fucking zoo on thursday and friday nights. We witness some stunning examples of douchbaggery, and a few weeks ago one of the girls in the office came out to find blood all over the hood of her car. So tonight I was taking a short break outside with a couple of my coworkers. There was a fairly drunk guy arguing with a very drunk girl when we got out. I don't speak Hebrew all that well, and my angry drunk Hebrew is even worse. My coworker, who is fluent in drunkenese, sort of gave me the gist of it. She was mad about something, he was trying to calm her down, etc. It looked a bit like it might get ugly, but it hadn't yet, so we decided to stay untill it got resolved. It stayed just below the boiling point for at least fifteen minutes. The cops finally showed up to break it up, and she took a swing at him. All 90 drunk pounds of her took a swing at him and missed. Then he swung back and connected. The cops beat the mortal shit out of him untill he was lying on the ground crying. They took him away and that was pretty much that.

Here's point though: she'll be back with him in a few days. This was the worst of what I saw tonight, but it was not the only example of this sort of behavior. The thing is, and this is only way it could be worse, this behavior is being rewarded. These assholes are getting laid. Girls seem to really like dickheads. I just don't understand it. I know I'm starting to rant here, but I just find the whole thing so reprehensible.

Anyway, just had to get that out of my system. Everything else is going well. I had been planning to head to Brazil in a few months to be with the girl. I was concerned about getting a work visa, since this isn't an easy thing to do, even with my dual nationalities. There has been a change of plans though. Juana is giving up her job with the Brazilian government to work for the UN, and is getting posted in Cape Verde, off the coast of Senegal. They will not only pay to move her there, but will move me as well. On top of this, I get a diplomatic visa, which pretty much lets me do whatever the hell I want; including work, which is important. She gets the option to choose a new asignment after two years as well, so we can see the world and have the UN foot the bill. All in all, I'd say it's a pretty good deal.
