*WHEW*
It's been a while since I posted, or responded to others. Sorry!!
I have been really busy the last coupla weeks, particulary at work, and we only have one measly dial-up line at home. Regan likes to post on her LJ even more than I on here, and sometimes it's difficult to get internet time.
Yeah yeah. I know. Excuses excuses.
So what have I been up to?
Well, the weekend of January 14-15th, I spent in lovely Gaffney SC doing the shootem up fun I lve so much. Days of wool uniforms, sweaty guys, marching miles on end, battles with Brits, etc. Evenings of cards, movies, Chinese buffet, farts, loud raunchy jokes, and drinking.
Awesome.
Here's some pics.
Forming up.
In formation.
The 8th Pennsylvania Regt.
On our way to fight.
Still marching.
Our gallant commander.
In battle line on the field.
The militia in front of us.
The Highlanders advance!!
Give em a volley!!
Brave South Carolina (they're squinting because the wind was gusting over 30mph that day and gunpowder was being blown into the eyese of the guys downwind)
Victorious congressional forces guarding surrendered Highlanders.
these are pics from Saturday. I will periodically post more as I get to them.
The weekend before last, we went to the annual meeting/party of a new unit we are joining this year.
They have a lot of fun, and we can hang out with them at different events than our other unit.
LAST weekend, we went to the annual meeting/party of our OTHER unit, and had a ball. Did some biz, of course, but played music, told stories, drank port, etc.
*digression*
Port. Oh lovely port.
Also known as port wine. A sweet, fortified red wine from grapes grown in the Douro valley of Portugal, aged in oak and then bottle conditioned.
Oh sweet nectar.
Excellent after a meal, with blue cheese and walnuts, or at any time. In fact, how about now?
the best is vintage, which is PHENOMENALLY expensive, but a nice blended ruby port such as Warre's or Fonseca Bin 27 is lovely. The fortification (addition of brandy) makes it stronger of course, but also halts fermentation at the desired stage.
I highly recommend!!
I will be taking more of a leadership role in coming months in our unit, which a looking forward to.
After all, I am an ambitious bastard.
I just finished the new Gene Wilder autobiography. Simply yet elegantly written, and fascinating. The man is obsessed with sex. Even when his various wives were sick, et al., he talks about how he is not getting any. I'm not sure if I like the guy, but terribly engaging memoir. I ripped through it in 2 days.
I have also been busy trying to put together a disc of music for some folks. Let me back up.
I have been hired to do a St Patricks day gig at the local Iris restaurant/pub we frequent. My first gig in probably 8 years. i'm fine with it, but the proprietor wants more than just one musician. So I have been scrambling a bit to find some on short notice. After all, it's only month and a half away. i think i have, but trying to make each of them a compilation disc of about 50 songs has been a real bitch.
Also been watching a lot of Monty Python's Flying Circus (gift from my awesome wife), saw :
The Baxter- cute romantic comedy- thumbs up
Monsieur N- what if drama/mystery regarding the death of Napoleon- VERY well done, highly recommended
Ringers- documentary on Lord of the Rings fans- thought it was gonna be like trekkies. Wasn't. Thumbs down.
Trekkies- well, YEAH. Awesome movie. Double thumbs up.
Saint Ralph- cute movie about a young teen who needs a miracle, becomes a runner, and almost wins the Boston Marathon. Well written and acted, if not very plausible, and the kid rocks. Thumbs up.
I want to go Scotland.
What have you been doing?
Tell me in detail!!
