Most of you, probably never heard of Daniel Berigan. But, if you enjoy the freedom to be different, & stand with those who fight for justice, you owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude. He died today, at the age of94.
In 1968, Dan led a group of pacifists in raiding a selective service (draft) office, took the files, & burned them. He served two years in prison for this, & never apologized! Dan, & his late brother, Phil, were both Catholic priests. They were among the greatest social activists of the 1960s. Needless to say, they were opposed by the leaders of the Catholic Church.
