I bought a bunch of Stella Artois because someone recommended it if I liked Heineken, and after finishing the 12-pack over the course of about a month (I'm a very light drinker), I found a left over Heineken in my fridge.

It's fucking garbage.

Naw, that was real developer stuff...this was just "all fun and brains."

Everything for PAX is finalized. Train ticket there, badge for the 3-day expo, plane ticket back, staying with a guy named Jon via couchsurfing.com. I'm excited. Here's a list of things I've already committed to doing while I'm there:

D&D campaign on the train
Rock Band tournament on the train
WoW TCG on the train
Mordheim campaign at the expo
Guitar Hero tournament at the...

Started to paint some Mordheim figures in preparation for PAX. I busted out my paints after probably a year plus, and they're all still liquidy and mixed. Props to GW for fixing their paint pots finally.

I had to run down to my local hobby shop to pick up some primer, so I called over there to find out the hours... and my old roomate...

I'm officially going to Penny Arcade Expo in about a month! I bought my train tickets yesterday, so I'll be joining about 150 other PAXers (no joke) on the West Coast Starlight from Sacramento all the way to Seattle. It should be a 20 hour marathon full of mountain dew, Rock Band, and lots of craziness. I'm told there are already 2 televisions being brought...

With this photographer, he's been very particular about posing me, to the point where he even orchestrates my expressions. His preference has been for as little/ as subtle expression as possible - for me this is fine, considering the incredible product.

Hate to erase my previous (but heavy) blog post, but I saw The Dark Knight today. I'd just like to join the ever growing chorus and say that it's amazing, and that Heath Ledger was incredible.

Also, if anyone is interested in buying my Wii I'm thinking about selling. Here's what I have:

Wii system with upgraded component cables and all standard parts/pieces
4 remotes...

People who support the conflict in Iraq (I shy away from calling it a war, because that carries certain implications and connotations that don't quite fit) seem to have a problem. When they try to convince people that we're winning, which seems to be an important thing, they do nothing but rave about how Iraq is a better place. Listen to this radio clip from...

Something I thought of while peeing:

Everyone has things they think of, or that they think they're supposed to think of while peeing to make it happen faster. Waterfalls. Faucets. Geysers. Whatever.

But what would you think of if you wanted to stop peeing?

My answer: corking a wine bottle.

I think it's easy to say fuck it...or to shrug your shoulders at the idea that crappy games come out all the time, but I think there's a difference between crappy games and poorly marketed games...and poorly designed games based on previously mentioned poor marketing.

I've decided the trashiest thing someone can do is put a cigarette in their mouth, unlit, when they're indoors. I've never seen anything more douchey or disgusting.

No, it's a short film. It's sort of grindhouse-ish/hostle-ish...like if you notice from the words of the music in the background and the off-notes...it's not a normal happy movie or a porn. Basically, (long story short) I end up "getting my eyeballs taken out".
bob:
Well, i guess it isn't lesbian porn because neither girl in the movie is a lesbian...(i'm bi, but that doesn't count) and there's no sex, or kissing, or anything. I just get tied to a chair and get my eyeballs taken out.

I think that makes it eyeball porn, right?

Okay. So, I saw the Tahoe Shakespeare Festival's production of Richard III last night. It was kind of a weird show - it was the first day of the performance, and it was billed as "preview night" even though there was no actual official advertisement of such. Tickets were cheaper for a mysterious, unknown reason, and there was no notification anywhere that it would be...

So, I went from walking out on Wanted because it was so bad to crying my eyes out at WALL-E because it's so good.

My new motto is... Pixar: Suspiciously Good.

Pixar is up to something. Every movie they've made has gotten progressively better, and WALL-E is too good. Within five minutes of that movie I was completely invested. I was hooked. The next movie...

I SUCK at shooters...particularly fps. But, I'm ok at third person...and I'm partial to the sniper rifles.

But, the graphics...and the storyline were what drew me into Gears.

I was actually shocked to find that the "script" was written by a woman because it's got that gut-wrenching full-metal jacket feel...but it really is too short.

When you get to chapter 4 you expect 4 more chapters that aren't there.

But, they're good.

And, it really shines in multiplayer...and the second one is adding more maps and games...so, it's only going to get better.

Plus it looks like they've made some great changes to the way unreal renders the graphics...thoes are getting better too.

Wanted is so bad, it's inspired me to write a movie.

It's true...and it raises the HUGE question of, "how much do you alter a sequel?" How do you teeter on the line between conservatism and innovation without falling into the oubliette of bitter fanboys?

I think the answer varies from game to game (which goes without saying) but I think that Blizzard has it harder than, say GoW 2 or...oh, um...let's just say Madden (for some giggles) who can repurpose much of the gameplay assets from their previous releases.

And, Blizzard responds nicely to the debate. I like the way they're defending their design and explaining, not only why they chose it, but how it is intended to enhance future gameplay.

I think time will tell with the overall design of the game, but it's safe to say (with a 9 year gap and Diablo 2 is currently one of the #1 PC game purchases) that Blizzard don't have anything to worry about concerning grumbles from it's fan-base.

They'll take what they can get...and they'll like it all the same.

Oh, and as an asside...I'm super jealous of your ferret! I wish they weren't illegal here in Cali.
bob:
Yea, it's been known to happen...sometimes I digress into, "fire bad, tree pretty"...but I try to keep it on the upper levels of conversation.
