happy scary day.
i went and saw a free movie last night entitled Bloody Sunday. we have an "arty" theater in town called the anjelika. all i was told is that it was foreign, which sorta i guess, it was english. it's about a protest gone bad in london in 1972. i don't care if i'm ruining it. i was actually doing the church style slowly close eyes and back open again quickly during the first 20 minutes or so. it was that boring, and i had no idea what was happening. then, this protest for civil rights turns ugly, and groups of army guys with blockades set up on different streets tank in while others start creeping out into the crowds and shooting people, along with people who ran out from their cover to help someone who'd just been shot. it was supposedly from a true story, and it was, i'd just never heard about it. they shot 27 people and killed 13, and then covered it up and faked reasons for why it happened. on the way out an old man was complaining about it taking 30 years for this to come
out. i don't know - i wouldn't ever join the army, and i don't think i could ever shoot anyone, but i wouldn't ever participate in a protest or a riot either. it was a pretty fucked up movie.
after the movie i went home to smoke weed and then go see Galactic play. i had to sit on the couch for 45 minutes when i got home. amazing, the last instrumental set being one of those moments in time that really reaffirms why it's great to be here. i have a few cd's that do them zero justice, i don't know why they even bother, but i've heard/read that they are incredible live. they have a singer, and all his songs are pretty bad, but they are mostly an instrumental band so he was only on stage for 6 or 8 songs. they played huge jam sets in between his songs - floored. i saw 3 hours worth and that was after showing up late. so good - thick, heavy, fast, grooved out, there's organ, baritone sax, and occasional harmonica even. cmon. the place was jampacked, and so many highlights. this cat in a full shark outfit got on stage and danced badly, and it looked like he almost fell down at one point. a really cute girl dressed as a mini skirt cop did some dirty dancing with a short guy dressed up as a prisoner. a guy with slacks on and his shirt tucked in was at the bar saying something stupid, flailed his arms out and knocked over the drink he'd just bought and had to buy another one. they'd slow it down and soften up for a minute, then bring it crashing in again and the whole place would explode, people jumping up and down, goatheads everywhere. no shows are like that here. on the last pre-encore song, the drummer is leaving his seat and arms all the way up so he can hit as hard as allowable. the whole band is pounding it for the finale. it was my first, but i will see this band anytime i have the opportunity from now on. first night of the tour and they played in dallas. blessed. work can chew pubes today, i'm stache'n through it and i took tomorrow off so i can really cut loose tonight. have a cool halloween!
