I'd like to think so---although I seriously doubt any company would have risked an insurance policy on him:

"Now let's see. Mr... Irwin is it? I'd really like to sell you this policy, but what did you say you do for a living?"

"Nature shows, mate."

"Uh huh. And what did you say you did on these 'Nature shows'?"

"It's great! I get to find the most exotic, most poisonous and most deadly animals, all over the world, sneak up behind them, and jam my thumb up their arses before they kill me. Crikey, you should've seen some of the close calls I've had!"

"Right... I'm going to have to say 'no' to this one."

Seriously though, he made learning exciting for a lot of people, and will be greatly missed.
