Here is an article about Ixion's recent show (Mon. Jan 10) at Galapagos. I took this off the blog of Nicole Sikora who attended the event. Ironicly, the 'Elvis Impersonator' she randomly encounters is someone I've known since 1984!!

Great Big Sex Day

Late Monday night....

After the museum, we headed back to Williamsburg to go to a great little club called Galapagos Art Space. We caught portions of two free shows -- the first, a retro burlesque show performed by Ixion Burlesque, where two throaty female singers belted out some traditional tunes accompanied by a drummer, a keyboard pianist in a top hat, and a buff male announcer dressed in angel's wings. While the music plays, a female performer hits the stage, dances to the music and does a strip tease... but not a greasy, sleezy modern strip club tease where dancers bump, grind and slide down a pole to "Me So Horny." No, this is woman in control - much more vibrant than anything I've seen in a club, and somewhat vaudevillian. They wear 1940's apparel, they wear retro undergarments, they strip down to panties and jeweled nipple covers (ala Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, but done very differently and in the privacy and intimacy of a club instead of on national televion.) The women aren't malnourished, waify heroin addicts. They seem to live and work in the Bettie Page standard all the way -- many of those we saw appearing to be somewhere between a size 6 and a size 10, with plenty of hip and sensuous, soft little bellies. They could *totally* shake it. The crowd was packed out. They went wild with each number. The revivial of this art form is new, but it seems to have already caught on with the crowd.

We had cosmopolitans, and somehow the bar tender made them extra cold and satisfying. When I parked at the bar to capture the tender's attention, I found myself jumping around. I accidentally bumped the guy sitting at the corner. He was wearing a huge, seriously ginormous Elivis wig.

Me: Oh. I'm sorry. I don't think the bartender can see me around your big, impressive hair. Impressive hair, by the way. Very big.

Him: (insert Elvis lip thing here) Uh... thank you... thank you very much. (silence) You knew that was coming, didn't you?

Me: I suspected as much. You certainly delivered.

Him: It's his birthday this week. People expect me to wear the wig.

Me: I see.

At first, we sat on some stairs and had a good view of the stage. The decor was something else. There was a huge reflecting pool just inside the club entrance. The walls were lined with dozens of foot-tall white votive candles in glass, all lit and providing almost the only light in the building. The brick walls were stained with black smoke marks.

Later, we fought for and won the rights to two chairs in the left-hand center of the room. Two couples and a kind of geeky guy were at the table in front of us. One of the girls showed me all of the pictures she took of the dancers in the dark. Another girl and her boyfriend danced, yelled and performed some stage-fighting maneuvers just for fun against a nearby railing.

Also a dancer/friend of mine attended the show: Peek-A-Boo Pointe. Here is a pic of her doing Tiki... Her tatoo is awesome, ain't it? And it just keeps going and going down her body...

Peek-A-Boo has expressed an interest in performing with Ixion... so I'm gonna make that happen.

Here's a couple new pics of MOLLY Molly plays the goddess URANIA in "The Muses"

And one final shot of RUBY VALENTINE who plays the goddess ERATO in "The Muses"
