Yesterday we (malthus) played a show at steppin out in virginia beach. This would be the second time we've played there but only the first as a full band. Our bassist could not take part in the deathfest show cause of a head injury. This was a battle of the bands to see who would open for darkest hour at the norva. What a joke of a show. We did not win but that is not my issue with this production. I could care less about winning/not winning. I thought we played our best show to date as we are all starting to get real comfortable on stage. We met a bunch of cool people and won a few dare I say fans over. Well then what am I not so happy over you ask? I'll tell you. The winners of this show should not have won with the exception of ice fortress..... they were bad ass and I hope they win the finals and get to open the show.... Cool ass guys to go along with being a bad ass band. The other two winners were in fact two of the worst bands I've seen in sometime....... One band not only couldn't play their instruments but they got into a fight with each other and didn't finish their set..... not to mention the fact that they didn't sell any tickets....... The other band was a bunch of drunk 40 something guys making the worst attempt to be a nu-metal band I've seen in a while.... now that wouldn't bother me, they sold all their tickets which I thought was awesome, but and a big but........... they cleared the bar..... no shit us and one other band their driver and 4 of their friends were all that was left in the bar by the time they were done playing.... How did these two bands win? They were friends with the promoter. Why does that bother me? Because from where I was sitting there was a couple of other bands that deserved that spot a whole hell of a lot more then these two bands........... it also was kinda funny that after the last band played we got to hear "Oh by the way the winners were such and such have a good night." over the pa and that was that..... The people who paid to see the show got no say in who won as you would normally think....... Other then that though a great fucking day I can't wait for the next show.
