I’ve missed out on quite a bit because of my kidney disease this past year an a half and I’ve been bumming HARD !
In April 2019, I made it out to a 420Pinups shootfest, complete with my dialysis port and eternal exhaustion. But hey, I did it. I was able to shoot my set “Bare Nature” with the wonderful @sunshine and then spent a few hours shooting content with the girls at the shootfest. I was all gung-ho until the last 2 hours when my body just couldn’t take anymore and I had to sit out of photos and instead cheer on the ladies while they finished up shooting.
On my way home, I was happy I was able to do as much as I did, but I was also sad because I knew my body just wasn’t in any condition to do more.
Thankfully my kidney transplant surgery ended up being on July 11th 2019 so I knew it’d only be a few more months until I was back at it and attending shootfests again !
September came around and 420Pinups was hosting a SF near me and since it had been 2 months, I thought I’d start slow and go up to hang out with the girls and maybe get a few shots done. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. After 2 hours of driving, putting air in my tire, oil in my engine, and breaking my phone screen, my back aching something fierce, I had to turn around and head back home, heart broken.
I know healing takes times but after 18 months of not being able to do much, I was READY to get back out there doing what I love ! But I knew my healing and health had to take priority so I sucked it up.
WELLLLLLL this past Saturday October 19th 2019, after a struggle to get my white blood count back to a normal range, I attended my first shootfest since surgery !! From 11:30am until about 5:30pm with no issues, fatigue, pain, or anything ! It was an absolute BLAST! Seeing some familiar faces and some new, it made the wait so worth it !
