I was just in the shower thinking about the whole thing with Senator Ted Stevens; "It's not a truck but a series of tubes". I'm sure what happened was Ted was upset his "internet" hadn't arrived so he called tech support:

Tech guy: Hello, Internet tech support, this is Tech Guy. How can I help you?
Senator Ted: Yeah, hello? hello?
TG: Yes, sir. How can I help you?
ST: Yeah, I haven't recieved my....uh...internet. My staff sent it at 10am. I just recieved it today. What took so gosh darn long, eh?
TG: Your internet? Your staff sent you the internet...and you recieved it? Oh! you mean e-mail!
ST: Eh? I don't know, I guess. Okay, Just tell me why it took so long.

So, then I'm sure Tech Guy gave a good explaination about the difference between e-mail and the internet and web browsers, etc. I'm sure Ted Stevens didn't get any of it and probably kept bringing up grand children or how he wanted to build a bridge in Alaska called "Ted Stevens Way". Then I imagine the tech guy just said something like "okay look, you can't get everything on the internet as fast. Websites load very quickly and e-mail can take a few hours or a day, if theres congestion. It doesn't all come through the same way....It not a uh, truck. It's more like a series of tubes. Some are more narrow than others. So if everyone sends e-mail at the same time it can....sort of get clogged.

My point is that some tech guy out there is telling the story about when the Senator called and how he helped the start of people call the interweb "the tubes"

It might have been funnier when I was in the shower...Anyway, I'm off to work
gangstaswan:
It's funny. I totally get it.

Once in seventh grade my science teacher had four rats and they were huge! A sixth grader asked how they got so big and my teacher said she kept them next to microwave at night so the radiation would mutate their genes. That poor kid must be fucked up about genetics and microwaves now.
