My little brother (15) is staying with me tonight. He has been a runaway for the past few weeks. He called me and I offered to let him stay with me tonight because I just don't want him out on the streets and whatnot. So, i have a contract with my landlord saying I will not smoke cigs on the property. My bro smokes and he knows about the contract. The whole family is now against him because of his behavior, skipping school, drug use(etc). I am so worried. Anyways, I look away for a minute and he takes a cigarette, goes outside and lites a cigarette. I know it's not a big deal, but he could get me kicked out for not keeping my contract. I live underneath a big house in a studio apartment. I am one of the only people he has left who hasn't abandoned him. Our family is so screwed up right now.
His father(my step-father) made me talk to him for 45 minutes about all of the issues going on with him...I am so stressed that it is hard for me to get involved. I have no idea what I can do about it. He doesn't listen to me anymore. He used to listen to me. I have helped raise these boys through abusive screwed up home environments and now I don't know what to do...I am unsure what to do with myself, ya know? It's his future, and it's slipping fast.
I'm freaked out for him.

Oh your brother being back is sweet. I'm happy for you and for him. Does your family know that he is with you? They really shouldn't let you bear the burden alone. *hugs*

Thanks for the cheese, you're so kind. i should have been handing it out.
sorry to hear about your brother. From my own experience as a messed up teenager, run away on drugs and skipping school all i can say is, don't push to hard. From my days as a youth counselor and hearing all of the crazy shit these kids are doing and thinking...i would say, don't push to hard.
The age is a huge factor. It is almost the norm these days for fifteen year olds to act out in this way. The good thing is he has you. He knows he has you or he wouldn't have called. Being freaked out for him is O.K. I hope that everything turns out. Tough times.
