So, yesterday I saw the girl I used to "nanny" for over 3 years. I hadn't seen her in so long that it was really emotional for me. My 13 year old brother came with me...It was fun. I honestly haven't been that happy in a really long time. She made me so happy. It's impossible to be sad around her because she is so cheerful. biggrin It's hard because she is so far away now. One thing that makes me sad is the fact that her speech seems to be getting worse rather than better. I'm not blaming her parents or anything. It could be a number of things. Maybe I didn't get a chance to talk to her for long enough. When I was working with her, I would spend hours a day interacting with her and keeping her brain busy (so to speak) so she would not get bored. I found that the more I did that...the better her speech would get. GEEZ I missed her. It was great to see her. Her mom promised to come visit more often. She also is sending me a bunch of Ani Difranco cds that I don't have. SCORE. Anyways...Here is a more recent picture of her I have...

I sometimes teach at the school where I did my internship. It is a school for SEBD kids. I work mainly with the autistic classes. It is so sad when you come back after a while and it seems like nobody continued where you left off. We have a 13 year old who didn't speak til he was like 10. He still has the echolalic thing going, but it took a damn good teacher (the one I worked under) to bring words out. I know how you feel.
