OK, just know that I try to keep my proselytizing to a minimum and also keep my feelings about things that really matter to a minimum on SG, but I couldn't let this go. I think I am gonna post this on the boards.
I read about this poor girl in the LA Times Metro section today. It really just hit home for some reason but basically, this 20 year old girl needs not one, but to organ transplants and her insurancec provider is denying her the operation. Why? Because it's rare to have 2 organs removed and transplanted in the same surgery (only one case in all the US last year) but also because the surgery will cost $1 million dollars.
Basically, they have told her, we can't pay to save your life, even tho you pay us to do that and sorry, you will die. Her options are: find a hosital to donate their services or find $1 million BEFORE the surgery and the hospital will then give her what she needs: 2 functioning organs. How sad is this? and what does this say about health care in America?
Anyway, she seems really creative and loves photogrpahy designing websites, animals & travel and cannot really enjoy much of it as she is too tired to leave her house. It broke my heart.
There is a link on her site to a paypal account where they are collecting $ for her. I had to do it. I had to give something to this poor girl. I think seeing how much pain she is in (her website is really in depth and frankly how sad is it that her time designing websites are designed to keep her alive when we all enjoy this website for fun?) so Therams ex-wife called me today. we have met and are friends of sorts...she said she lost my number and has bees asking Theram for my number for a month...and he kept coming up with excuses, like he couldn't remember it...it's in his email...it's in his brothers cell...
