I took a nice lake siade break yesterday and it was just the thing to recharge the batteries. MELLOW. Now I'm off to start trial in Philly. I'll be at the lovely Market Street Marriott for 2-3 weeks.
Cold, dark. Most of the time it is not too bad, if you can deal with living in a small mining town. Most of the time the only thing I really miss is being able to do my own grocery shopping. I hate the food they serve here. So unhealthy. The summers here are not bad, and thanks to global warming they are getting much nicer. It is pretty much either 24 hours of light (summer time) or 24 hours of dark (winter time, and currently what we are in). We get no flights during the winter too, which is a bum deal. On line shopping definitely makes this place more fun.
I went to Detroit for the 4th of July weekend. The entire Itburns family gathered there. Lovely. Parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 4 in laws, 4 nieces and a nephew. But it wasn't as awful as it sounds.
Highlights: We all went to the Tigers v Yankees game on Sunday (very Norman Rockwell); I golfed twice (yuppie... Read More

1) when there is something unfathomably sad in your life, it's nice to spend several hours dancing at a goth club spinning nothing but the Smiths and Morrisey all night;
2) under the right circumstances the following phrase is good for 3 hours of laughs: "I don't know where I'm going, but I'm walking. I'm walking East.... Read More
Please take a moment to remember Mr. Aaron Watkins (1970-2005), the world is a better place for his having lived in it. And please keep him, Cat and their families in your thoughts. Send your prayers, mental energy karma, or whatever you believe in to them all in this sad time.
I blew off the second part of my travels this week and am back at home. And my reward? I have to fly to Kansas City tommorow and then drive to Harrisonville, MO. Fun.
Today was quite the day. We sold our bar and will be closing it on Saturday. We've been thinking about opening a much larger/less yuppie bar closer to down town, and the bar next door offered us a bunch of $$$ for our current space. So we cashed out and are closing Saturday. Call me if you're in Chicago this weekend and want a drink... Read More
think i'm gonna hang with the parents and relax too. pick up my camping gear. maybe head out to my grandma's lake. wash my car. get an oil change. check my brakes and shocks. hang out with sgD. who knows. i have plenty TO do. we'll see if i get to any of it. my friend is coming here (chi) this weekend and i think i'm just gonna end up missing it all for the sake of my sanity. i COULD stay here and hang on friday night but i really would rather wake up on saturday already in MI and have at least a whole day NOT in the car.
This was a MELLOW weekend, and it was just what I needed. I worked late on Friday and then sat at home with a pizza watching "Wild at Heart." There's always something comforting about watching that movie, cathartic.
Yesterday I ran errands down in what my bestest friend calls "The Matrix" (Michigan Avenue) and then cleaned the house. Dinner and drinks with some friends from... Read More
I woke up this morning still stressed out, so I decided that the thing to do was to put on the IPod and go for a run. Apparently I was far more stressed than I thought because I ran a total of 12.8 miles along the lake. From this experience the following was learned:
1) I won't drop dead of a massive coronary if I... Read More
I've been so tardy with getting myself in gear around here. But i wanted to stop by and say thank you, because there's always a kind word wherever I see your name in my journals.
Safe travels!
