It's such a nice day today. Clear blue sky, autumn leaves. The frost lost in the sunshine. I want to go out, but I don't know if I can. I'm frightened of the sun. Once burned, twice shy. I'll sit and lick my wounds in the shade.
And I was doing so well there.
For a moment. Or maybe two.
Like steeping out into the full glory of the sun.
Brilliant and warm.
Basking. Reveling.
Only to then notice that you're
burning/blistering
in the heat.
And burns linger. Continue to burn long after the sun has set and the stars appear.
Burrow into the skin like insects and ache.
Creeping from skin to nerve and bone. Until you hurt all over.
And can't remember where the pain started.
Head or toes. Heels or heart.
