okay. i'm in texas. and i'm already changing plans. it's amazing how when you're so far away from everything you've ever known you feel a certain freedom to do whatever the hell you want. but first a brief recap:
day 1- snow and shit through ny and nj (go figure) didn't start to see grass albeit still brown from winter until pa. when i stopped for lunch around 2p it was about 60 in mechanicsburg (hey ain't that the home town of that trent renznor guy?) then in va it started to rain. but it was a good rain, one of those early spring shgowers that makes the mayflowers bloom. in va i lost any fear of 18wheelers that i might of still had. played leap frog with those fuckers all day. finally remembered to eat dinner around 9p. getting the shakes will do that to you. needless to say after about 134 hrs i finally pulled into my motel for the night in knoxville, tn. end day 1
day2-started around 8a. eat breakfast at a denny's outside chatanooga. ah denny's. the consistancy of bad coffee with forever warm my heart (and stomach) made great time through 'bama and mississippi. loved being able to set the cruise control on 85 and haul ass. and talk about the lush green! i haven't seen such a wonderful sight since last summer. i got to laugh at everyone back home because i was sweltering in record setting tempatures. it was 84 in baton rouge, when i got caught in traffic waiting to cross the mississippi. which was a bitch at sun down when it's right in your eyes. had gone over the lake pontachtrain causeway (world's longest bridge) it was great. warm and foggy. nothing but water and two lanes of traffic either way. should have remembered that hanging your arm out the window for 8 or some hours will leave you with at least some sun. by time i made it to lake charles,la my left side was glowing pink. thank god for the portugese in me, it's already tan.
day3-started off in the fog with the plan to eat breakfast in texas. which i did. kinda wanted to stop and take a pic of the welcome sign but the fog was too thick, barely missed it myself. so it was breakfast in beamount then on to houston. got here (it's where i'm as i write this) around 11a. drove around a bit after stopping in at the visitors center. then off to my lousy motel.
day4- i think that finding a used crack pipe in your motel room is a basd sign. not to knock other people's bad habits (let my light a cigarette) but that combiened with the splitting headache i developed. i diecied to leave town. so in a couple hours i'm off to san antonio to stay with friends of mom and dad. hospitality is always welcome. christ i love my family and the people they know! i figure i can still make my reservations in austin for monday. two days there then who knows....at some point i'll try to get some pictures of this trip up. if you're really interested, drop me a line and i can send 'em off to ya. ah..the great outdoors
