"I don't like Mondays...I want to shoot the whole day down"
Why do Mondays suck so much. My friend Steve would say, "Who are you, fuckin' Garfield?" Yeah. Yeah I am. I even have my own version of Pookie, but he goes only by the name Bear. Anyway, I was typing this and talking to my friend Ali on AIM, and I accidently clicked the "send a greeting" button instead of the smiley button, and my entry disappeared
. *Sigh of defeat* Anyway, a wonderful weekend bleeds into a shitty start to the week
. But Saturday was wonderful, once I got off my ass and stopped playing video games instead of doing laundry and getting groceries for myself, and made my way up to Providence for a night of Rock 'N Roll and pizza. Ariana took me to Federal Hill (the Little Italy of Rhode Island) for some stuffed pizza, and it was exquisite
. Then we went to the show at AS220 and saw Orwell from France (they were really good. Nice upbeat indie-pop.) The Reputation played next, and Elizabeth, the lead singer has such a rock star stage attitude, it was kinda funny. She had her guitar at croch-level, and her hair covering half her face all rock star like and she was all detatched-like, but she's a really good singer, and pretty cute, and she is a really nice person. She told me how the band just got signed to Lookout! Records, and they just played The CMJ Music Awards, and she was just blown away by both events and she's trying to act cool about it but not in a snobby way but she's really giddy about the whole thing, but she was not looking forward to driving back to Chicago and going to class on Monday ( I guess she's either in law school or is going to law school), but I thought it was really nice of her to chat it up. Cara Hyde (the reason Ari and I were there in the first place) played next, and she was amazing. (Check out her mp3s here cara hyde). She did a really nice cover of New Order's Blue Monday. Susie Ghahremani, who show it was 'cause it was a record release party, played next and Cara accompanied on the drums. It was cool cause Susie played bass; there was no guitar, and she did a really nice cover of Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now. It was a really good show begining to end, and we got to shoot the breeze 'cause Ariana is friends with Susie 'cause they went to RISD together, and she knows Cara from a women's workshop and befriended her, too. It was really fun. Then we went back to Ariana's apartment and did laundry, if you know what I mean - and I mean we put some of my clothes in the washer machine and then had sex
. And then Sunday came and I had to go to work at 5:30 pm and I get there and I'm actually on time, and Boz is on the computer and I look at the time on the computer and it says 4:45... I fucking drove like a maniac to get to work and I get there an hour early 'cause its daylight savings
, and I had to stay till midnight, which further pissed me off 'cause I had two midterms today, and I only got five hours of sleep, and I left my jacket in my car 'cause it was really warm today...and then it rained all day. But I got to go to work an hour later than usual 'cause there was a guest lecturer that came to URI, and it meant 2 extra credit point for sociology. The lecturer was Prof. Jennifer Finney Boylan, and 16 months ago she was a man. It was really interesting hearing her talk about how she, from a very young age, felt she was a female trapped in a male's body. She brought up a lot of good points about gender identity, and gender vs. sex ( as she put it, "sex is whats between your legs; gender is whats between your ears and in your heart), and how transgender is focused more on gender identity rather than sexual identity. It was really interesting. Then I had to drive in the pouring rain to work and it was boring as usual, but I got to read more of The Amazing Adventures Of Kavalier and Clay and its so good. And the I came home, and Ron cooked some steak, so I guess today ended on a good note. But I am super tired so I am gonna hide under my covers and wait for 80s Night to arrive. G'nite
