Do you ever find yourself in a particular moment, and wish that you could somehow freeze the beauty/perfection/poignance of that moment forever? Sometimes the forces of the universe come together all at once and create a moment that feels like a movie. I pause and think, and in that moment I wish the world could see or feel it somehow, because everything is exactly as it should be, and it's a feeling that doesn't come often.
I had just such a movie moment on Saturday night. I was sitting safely inside my beloved Q train, heading into Manhattan, feeling exhausted, indifferent, apathetic, et cetera, and I rested my forehead against the mercilessly scratched window, enjoying the false solitude of my iPod. As Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes began, the train forged up onto the Manhattan Bridge, presenting me with an extraordinary view. The most exquisite golden ribbon of moon darted playfully in and out of the city skyline, teasing me. And the lights of the city twinkled and danced to the music that only I could hear.
It was a perfect moment, in a way that my words will never be able to describe accurately, but still I had to try. Do you ever have moments like that?
