An Approximation

Look, I haven't seen this dream in awhile
This girl I met at a party
I keep going through the motions
Waiting
As Delmore Schwartz once said
"In grinding misery for the fountains of poetry
To flow again."
I light candles and carry them
Across the decline of the tungsten filament
I breathe in silence like oxygen
I write hits on scraps of paper
I toil incessantly but
I don't think she's coming
She's been detained somewhere
Somewhere...
In all these vaulted mansions
Of Chinese goods
She's changing prices with a price gun
And wondering
Where I am.
