I watched this movie still on tape when I was a child. It's just scary! Mainly because it was inspired by the killer Ronald DeFeo Jr., who inspired the "Terror in Amityville" franchise, who died at age 69 in the United States. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1974 after killing his father, mother and four brothers in the family home in Amityville (USA).
In his youth, the killer massacred his entire family and ended up confessing. He told detectives, "When I started, I just couldn't stop. It happened so fast." But every detail of the case turned out to be inconsistent. DeFeo has repeatedly changed the version of how and why he killed his family, and detectives have failed to prove how he managed to do so by the way the bodies were found, all lying in their beds, showing no resistance and without being drugged.
After his arrest, the Lutz family moved into the Amityville residence, but managed to stay in the house for only 28 days.
In 1977, writer Jay Anson published the book "Terror in Amityville", based on the supernatural experiences lived by the Lutz in DeFeo's house, blaming the tragedies for the presence of demons and/or paranormal phenomena.
