Well, home, sweet, home, I suppose. It's difficult to give up lazy days spent swinging in a hammock, never quite knowing what time of day it is, only to come back to 5 days of catch-up work and a court date for a speeding ticket. Still, it was an amazing trip, and I've got plenty of pictures. I've decided that since there are so many that I'm particularly proud of and eager to share, that I'll spread them out and make them last awhile. One per entry, with a rumination on each. It'll help me preserve the memory of the trip and take some of the cramp out of being back in the rat race.

For starters, it's hard to imagine that the postcard trade does any bit of business in Costa Rica. There isn't a backalley in that country that wouldn't make a breathtaking photograph in the proper light, and anyone with a dime-store disposable camera can take a little bit of it home with them. This was taken our first night there, at a little outdoor diner in Jaco. Swordfish steak with mango chutney and fresh vegetables for 6 dollars. Dru and I sampled a local dark lager. We breathed in the second-hand hash from the table next door and played on the beach with a friendly stray mutt that we called Molly. I remember sitting back and taking in that hodgepodge of strangeness that makes the first night in some exotic new place so wonderful. It was right about then that I voluntarily lost all track of time.

I hope you've all been well. I've missed some outstanding sets, but I think I'm about caught up.

viola:
My dad and I used to dance around to Paul Simon songs, too, specifically the first 3 tracks on Graceland. Rock on.
