people whose facial expressions never change startle and worry me. and I don't trust people who don't trust candid snaps.

there isn't anything more deep and meaningful to say about that. I was just browsing facebook pictures and wondering why some people insist on seeing themselves exactly the same way over and over again.

***

so, there's this picture...

... and it's technically gorgeous, but it scares the living crap out of me. I see that it's beautiful, so it isn't like I'm a total freak. but when I look at it, I get all shifty and chirpy inside, like I'm waiting in the lobby to get my teeth drilled. that feeling you get sometimes in your sleep, when you're having a dream about something massive, and terrible in the most literal definition. something that you're sure is about to swallow you whole. I used to get the same feeling looking at the cover of Peter Benchley's Jaws.

I love that feeling, though. It's such a complex sensation, and so difficult to understand. like pressing an ear to the wall when you hear a commotion on the other side and trying to pick out words and familiar phrases when all you can distinguish is vague droning sounds. you can hear anger, but you don't know what the argument is about. you hear (moaning?) but you can't put it in context. it's like an anthropological choose-your-own-adventure story.

figmentation:
isn't she yummy?
I"d totally eat her up!

I completely understand your posting, but that's about as elequoent as I can phrase any type of empathetic response...

wow, i know the exact feeling you're talking about. it happens most for me when i have dreams involving large bodies of water, either muddy and swift or still and really cold. so that's weird and fitting that the iceberg picture inspires it as well. this might need more examination. shifty and chirpy, kind of like a high-pitched vibrating dread. huh. now i'll be thinking about this all night at work.
