another music star joined the infamous '27 club' at the weekend.. and the reaction has really shocked me...

first off.. and not really my main point.. but it was sad to see this tragic event overshadow the shocking events in norway.. certainly not amy winehouse's fault.. and no doubt a reflection of the impact that she had on this world.. as well as a reflection of the celebrity orientated culture we live in...

however.. it is the reaction of a pretty large minority that has touched me enough to write this.. its the 'junky' comments.. the 'waste of space' comments.. the 'she deserved it' comments.. that have inspired me enough to ask just when did someone deserve so much hatred for struggling to cope with life...

i mean.. sure she had problems.. but i can't recall her hurting anyone else.. she didn't take her own struggles and inflict pain and suffering on others.. other than on her friends and family as a result of her passing...

if she had never taken drugs.. had never drunk.. but had stuck a shotgun in her mouth.. would people still be saying the cruel things they are now.. i'm pretty sure some of the people i saw who had made comments wouldn't have!...

so does this mean suicide is a socially understandable way out.. but drugs aren't.. someone can breakdown and take their life.. but they can't collapse and turn to drink or drugs.. since when did society become a judge of an acceptable way to deal with pain!...

i've been surrounded by various persons at times in my life.. people close to me who have been through some astonishingly hard times.. times which i hope most people reading this wouldn't even be able to contemplate.. and i've seen them turn to drink.. i've seen them breakdown.. i've seen them ask to be driven to hospital.. and i've heard them say they want to end it all...

should i only feel compassion for half of these situations.. or should i feel a desire in myself to help that person and understand that person.. regardless of how they choose to.. or not to.. cope...

again.. i've known people who have had drug habits.. and i've been hugely inspired by how they've overcome them.. i don't judge for them for reacting in such a manner.. i may have done once.. i like to think i've grown as a person since.. its the strength to overcome the pain.. and the coping mechanism.. that we should respect.. and we should empower people to find this strength.. not beat them down for needing to...

as a race.. i mean a race of humans.. lets try and understand just why such a talented young person couldn't cope with life and had to resort to substance abuse to make it bearable.. lets not judge her for her mistakes.. but learn a lesson to listen to each other a little more.. be there for each other a little more.. our compassion is what makes us human...
