Here's a short story I wrote for class a year ago, hopefully being in Cinema Studies someone would want to make something out of it, let me know what you think!

A Night to Forget

Socializing is a main event in life. In my years i have attended parties, bonfires, dances, and bars. There is one main similarity in all of this: drinking. Going to bars is the most abhorred venue for drinking.

You decided with your friends to go drinking. The big sports game is on tonight, giving some excuse to go to a bar. Choosing a bar is easy; it is the one you always go to. You first decide whether to walk or drive. You decide to walk because everyone wants to drink and everyone hates being the designated driver. You walk 10 block to get to the bar, and the first experience of it is the clouds of smoke. Four smokers who dont obey the law stand right in front of the door. You try to hold your breath, but it doesnt help. It gets in your eyes and immediately sticks to your clothes which is only the beginning to a night on the town. You get into the bar, music is playing and most likely it is either country, or some old Journey song. You can already smell the urine stench pouring out of the restroom. Young men are playing pool, and old women sip on their glass of red wine. You know the mixed nuts have touched unwashed hands, and there is most likely hair and dead skin cells in the mix. You can see a shimmer on one of the nuts, and try to push out the thought that someone sucked on it and returned it to the bowl. There are the frat boys who have two empty pitchers and are downing a third one. You order a shots and begin the indulgence until you cant talk or see straight.

Eventually a feeling in your throat tells you that you are going to vomit. You debate whether to go outside or in the bathroom. You think, too many people in the way to go outside and those smokers will make it worse. You quickly run to the bathroom and enter a urine-stained, soaking-wet unsanitary hell. You enter a stall and try not to breathe in the left over turd in the toilet. You dont get on your knees fully knowing the germs and bacteria that lie there. You make the standard pose of what you know will be an unpleasant part of your night. You vomit those nuts you ate along with those 8 shots. Some of it splashes on the floor, but it always land on your shoe. Of course the stall is out of toilet paper. The stall now reeks of shit and vomit. Gotta get the hell out of here is your thought. You go to wash your hands where the counter is somehow always soaking wet. The bar has cut back its budget and bought the 3 year old powdered soap. It feels rough like gravel and smells like some combination of industrial cleaning products. As you rub it in to your skin it gets into the small cut on your finger and burns like all hell. No amount of running water rinses it out. The paper-towels are the 3 cents a foot roll that absolutely fails at drying your hands. It shrinks and crumbles when in contact with water. You just wipe your hands on your jeans. Time to get out of this cesspool.

The night always ends with karaoke. Every time the same songs are sung. Hotel California, Dont Stop Believing, We are the Champions, and Margaritaville. Slurring words, forgotten verses, the emotional high pitched climax all exemplify the lack of musical prowess. Everyone is cheering because theyre too drunk to know the difference. The top three singers all then decide to make a cover band of all the popular songs. They never follow through with that drunken dream.

The bar is closing and now all the staff are smoking inside. The owner now sings, plastered in alcohol consumption. You all leave the bar, incoherent and stumbling. You all say this will never happen again. You try to push out of your mind that one horrible experience, convinced there are better times to be had. But it happens every time.

Maybe you wont be go to a bar for awhile. Maybe it is once a month. But just remember all the nuts, vomit, urine, and drunken singers who made that night one that is now suppressed. Drink at the beach, club, or even at home. By now the hangover has kicked in and you wont remember a thing. All you need now is a Chaser hangover pill and some food that wont make you want to throw it back up after you eat it.

Try to think about this experience (even though the hangover only serves as a reminder not to drink as much).
