Check one off my bucket list...
Tonight we went to roller derby. I think the main motivation was to people watch, so from that perspective it was fun and interesting. Lots of piercings and tattoos there.
When we bought the tickets we paid a couple bucks more to sit trackside, not fully understanding what that meant. We quickly found out that meant we had two reserved squares of concrete floor, with the potential for catching flying roller girls. We quickly chose a couple of chairs10 feet back. My ass is too old for that shit.
The opening act was called Chicks on Sticks. Six women on what looked to be 6 foot tall stilts did a sort of dance while twirling flags. Pretty impressive especially when I can barely walk on the ground with shoes these days.
As a sport, roller derby seems a little silly, and both matches were blowouts. Tonight was the last regular match of the season. It might have been better if we had been following it from the beginning of the year, and had a team to cheer for.
Maybe next year.
