I woke up this morning to find that the heat was off again. Still a drag, but I'm slowly getting smarter. I wore my scarf, so the coughing was removed from the equation. Since I had already made a path through the snow, it was much easier this time. I crawled under the deck and cleared the intake again.

Later I went to the home improvement store and wandered through the plumbing department. I knew I needed a piece of pipe, the problem was how to connect it to the exhaust manifold which is an odd size. Then I saw it, a rubber coupling. Ten bucks later I was on my way home.

This time I added knee pads to my battle gear, and my trip down the "rabbit hole" was almost pleasant. I quickly assembled my solution and waited for the heat to kick in. It was beautiful (to me anyway), the steaming exhaust billowed from the new pipe. It was no longer trapped under the deck, and couldn't be sucked back into the intake.

I've made numerous trips to the window throughout the day to verify that it was still working. So far so good. With luck this will be my last rant on this pain in the ass.

The sad moral to this story is: I had thought about dealing with this problem all summer.frown

I like how you end the story. I guess my situation could be worse, could live up north. Not that it will help you, at least it can only get better from here. I do the same thing, think about what I need to do. Until of course its too late and Im doing things last minute. Some lessons you never learn, well at least I dont. I like the stress, makes things interesting.

My rule is: it's OK to make mistakes, just don't make the same ones twice.

There are actually two things that happened that might not have happened if I had tried to do this during the summer. First I wouldn't have been able to see the exhaust steam. It has to be cold for that. The other thing is I might not have thought of the rubber coupling.

It's still working, burning a hole in the snow. I'll fine tune it in the spring.
