Where We Rest Our Heads
"Michael, this is not working out"
She looks down at the floor avoiding eye contact with her current ex boyfriend as she slides her hands along the bed frame.
"We've been running around in circles and it's justI don't knowI need some time to think about things."
He can tell that this was hard for her to tell him, but deep down he really doesn't want to see her go.
"I need to get going"
Michael picks up on the hesitation in her voice and wonders if she really has to go or if it's just a defense mechanism she has to help her deal with things. He knows more than anyone that running away only makes things catch up faster, it's like time figures out where you are headed and takes a short cut there, and just waits for you, the whole time you think your running away from it but your actually running towards it.
He tries to offer some sort of reaction, anything that would show a sign of what he's feeling.
"Yea.. it's cool, it happens" brushing it off
As he says this he realizes this dose happen all the time, almost at the same point in the relationship, they get tired of the same old thing and give up on him.
Next week you bump into them at a party and they are with the most outrageous guy who is most likely to cheat on her that same night, because he passes out in the room of the host's sister, the next day he'll get up and brag about his little escapade like it was so common place, he'll receive hand shakes and high fives that only encourage him of his behaviors, a reward for those shallow people in the world only looking for a trophy.
Everyone is quick to leave these days, they put in a few months and at the first sign of trouble they run out on you. There is no communication or discussion or even acknowledgement of the problem like ignoring it will all the sudden make things better. You wont ever know if things could have been better when you don't sit down and lay it on the table, there is no compromise reached, your left unsatisfied and unfulfilled.
