Alright, I said I'd be a geek and try to update from Otakon...
SO HERE I AM!
I am feeling much love right now. For all of the people that I share this insane fucking fandom with. It's weird, because before I got here I wasn't too excited about cosplaying, I wasn't too excited about anime etc. Now I'm here and I'm having the best time.
It really is great to be surrounded by 20,000 people as dorky as you are. I forgot how awesome this is.
I can't wait to pose for pics with my new live action Sailormoon inner senshi figures...HAHAHA!
Anyway, Otakon specifics so far.
Thursday we arrived because they give out badges to people who have pre-registered the day before the con starts. Just to get things moving more quickly. Since there were 12,500 pre-registrants, this was a great idea.
I'm one of the idiots that sent my money in through snail mail, and so...
They didn't have my name in the computer after I had waited in line for two hours to pick up my badge. So I had to go stand in another line, where they basically told me "You sent your registration through the mail? Here, fill this out. Here's your badge."
It wasn't too much of a hassle.
Friday (yesterday for us East-coasters) was a long, fun day. Woke up at 9 AM to get into my Ruby cosplay, which like I said, I wasn't too excited about. But once I got to the con, it felt great to be all geeked out.
I figured no one would recognize me because she plays such a tiny role in the game. People took my picture anyway because I was damn cute. About four hour into my cosplay day, I finally heard a girl yelling "Ruby! RUBY!!!!!!!" I later learned this girl was Lynn, and she was a total sweetheart. She said I rocked, and that I was the first Ruby cosplayer she had ever seen, and that she was obsessed with FFIX and that she didn't know why more people weren't...etc. We discussed the game for a good five minutes as we walked to the dealer's room together.
That encounter made my day.
That, and running into a girl dressed as a zombie nurse from Silent Hill. I got pics! I'll post them when I get back on my computer at home.
I'm trying to squeeze as much out of this con as I can. We didn't even get back to the hotel room until an hour and a half ago. I took my friend Stefy to see the first two episodes of Miami Guns at 8 because it's really funny. She enjoyed it. Then we met up with our other roomie Brad and watched the first four episodes of Pretear, which I've wanted to see forever but haven't had a chance too yet. Magical girl, totally my style of anime. I liked it a lot.
I can't believe I'm updating about this crap in my journal!
Oh oh oh, another cool thing...after watching Pretear we popped into the artist's alley, which is always one of my favorite things at this con. Basically, people bring there artwork to sell or auction off. I always spend way too much money there.
The cool thing, I spotted this girl in a bright pink wig, wearing a white t-shirt that had big black block letters across the front spelling "CUNT". I stopped her and asked her where she had gotten it and she said a friend had bought it for her. I told her it was the greatest thing I had ever seen.
Then her boyfriend walked over and I realized I was talking to Erika Door. I my opinion, the coolest of the "cosplay elite" girls. I had bought some art from her a couple Otakons ago. She's fucking rad.
I coined the term cosplay elite to describe all of the more well-known cosplayers. Most of them are dicks. Erika is not. She rules!
Uhhh...anyway, I need to take a shower, and then get up early to sew the last pocket onto my Lisa Garland costume. Then it's off for another full day of geekery, including meeting up with a bunch of Silent Hill cosplayers. I can't wait.
