My mom called me a couple of hours ago. My Grandmother is going into a nursing home today.

We knew it was coming, still a bit of a shock.

I'm a little mixed on how I feel about this :

On one hand, she'll receive the care that most of the family can't provide. On the other, is there more that could've been done for her by the family ? AND, the whole thought of " shipping the elders " off so others care for what family " should " be able to do.

Hmmmm, it's a bit of a conundrum.

My ear still infected, feck.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. My dad was in a home last year recovering from surgery. Takes some getting used to seeing them in a home like that. But they do provide the best care.

I am sorry to hear that suga.frown It is really one of those things where you feel neutral. You are definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place. I am uncertain of how I would feel if that day ever came and I almost feel that without a doubt, i will be faced with such a decision with my mother when she comes of age because she doesn't take care of herself while she's younger. My grandparents are still not to that point yet and maybe never will be.

Sometimes it is better for them to be placed in a home where they can have the proper care and attention that we may not be able to provide due to the fact that unfortunately, our lives must continue to go on even though our heart wishes us to be the caregivers. It is a natural for us to want to nurture family, but not always the best decision for us or them.

I hope things work out eventually. It will be a huge transitional period for everyone.
