I've been watching nothing but CNN for the last few days. I'm fearing the effects of Katrina as they ripple off into every part of our country and effect everyone's lives and our economy. Gas prices, for one, right now are just a minor inconvenience for all of us, even here on the west coast compared to the total loss and devastation that the survivors and victims in New Orleans and Mississippi have suffered. I've heard stories of families literally ripped apart by the storm. One man in Mississippi held on to his wife as the winds and water swept her away. The last thing she told him was to take care of their children as she let go of him. Horrors that in my life seem completely unimaginable, for these people are a sad reality. I feel guilty for what I have. I feel selfish wasting my breath on complaints about the stupid little things in my life when there are things like this happening to people right now in this country. Why has it taken 4 days for President Bush to send in Federal aide? After all of the U.S.'s efforts to aide foreign countries where it's needed, i.e. relief for tsunami victims and other disasters or incidences of chaos, where is the initiative from our foreign "friends" to help with this disaster? And why has it taken until today for our federal government to campaign for that help? I've already done all I can to help. I've donated every dollar I could spare. I just wish it was realistic for me to be there to help as well. I only hope more people take the responsibility to lend a hand .
