What does a girl have to do to finally get the message through???

My ex-boyfriend of nearly six months now (broken up almost as long, maybe longer than we were even together) is STILL sending me "I miss you" "I love you" "I'm thinking of you" text messages in the middle of the night. Consistently since I broke things off with him, he's been answered with various versions of "Leave me the fuck alone!" ranging from friendly and sympathetic (which was right after I broke up with him) to the swifter and more to the point "Stop sending me messages you sick fuck!". For a couple of months I even tried the ignore-him-and-he'll-go-away approach, but he must have thought that was warmer than the usual "leave me alone" messages, because he sent me a lot more when I was doing that. Now at least when I get mean about it I get a break for about a week or two. I can't noodle it. Seriously. Is a restraining order the only way to go? I want nothing but to never hear from this sick sorry bastard ever again and nothing is getting that message through to him. I think I am going to call the police and find out what it will take. I refuse to deal with it anymore.
