Hallo, I suppose I should give this whole Blogging thingy a shot shouldn't I? Expect sporadic updates, poor sentence structure and comically poor use of Grammar!!!1!
Right, I've no idea where I should start with this. I can almost guarantee that this is just going to end up with me pissing and moaning about my job all the time I think.
I'm having mixed emotions about my employment, I've been meandering through my life with absolutely no direction at all and just drifted towards the North Sea Oil Industry as it's a well paid career to have. However - is this really what I want? I'm first and foremost a Musician, albeit it a rubbish one, and an Engineer second. I'm also a realist though and realise that the odds on me ever being able to have a career in the music industry are absolutely nil. My current employment puts incredible strain on being a member of my bands which I absolutely love - I'm unable to plan anything solidly more than a week in advance unless I book holidays and funnily enough I'd actually like to use them for ME, not a band or anything else. It's not nice going into work and being told that we're expected to "LIVE TO WORK NOT WORK TO LIVE!" Fuck. That.
However as I said - I've wandered into this career purely because it's decent money when I'm offshore. I'm hoping to save up a reasonable sum of money, buy a laptop, a small midi controller and an audio interface to enable me to write some Ambient stuff when I'm stuck offshore with nothing to do.
But ideally I'd rather just have a structure to my life so I can plan things better.
I work as a Metering Technician - best explained by viewing this
Advance warning though - this does get dull! Most of my days when I'm onshore are relatively boring and involve filling Vessels (gigantic cans) with water and then flowing that water into a plastic bin on a Scale and weighing it or using a pipe prover to fill the same bin up and weigh that as well! Sounds awesome doesn't it? You're jealous right?
Told you this would happen.
