okay, the post-burn report...

well, as it was said in "henry: portrait of a serial killer," it's always the same and it's always different. that is, there were equal parts frustration and fun, disappointment and debauchery. but all in all in all and all, i feel i gots my money and time worth.

i unfortunately did NOT get to show my book off to anybody at all. frown but as a houseguest who's staying with me remarked, at least the book is fully intact, and i did learn valuable things about building structures out on the playa. no longer am i intimidated by drill guns, guywires and PVC pipes, and now i know that i can build things, and develop skills. so a whole new world just opened up for me.

in other news, i also did a LOT of partying, hooked up with a lovely houri that JUST SO HAPPENS to live right HERE in LA smile here she is, under one of her many guises. we'll see how i hold up under the pressure. wink

in the meantime, i want to send my codolences out to all the suffering gulf coast residents whose lives have been upended and needs have been hamstrung by criminally incompetent governmental agencies and political hacks. i am hoping that there is some voodoo priestess stranded in the astrodome that is whipping up some massive juju on this current administration. papa legba and the mighty loas of the deep be pissed mightily, sho'nuff.

(btw, "j'suis le gran zombi" is a quote from dr. john, whose "gris-gris" is one of my favorite LPs of all time. i have to mention that many of new orleans's finest musicians have even lost their instruments due to this tragedy. the cultural implications of this are beyond my desire to contemplate, since we can only expect babbitry from an administration that allows for the looting of the baghdad museum.)

right now, my roomie and i are entertaining a guest from out of town, who came in to see the opening salvo of the p-funk 50th anniversary tour at the greek theater last night. my ticket was bought for me, and let me tell you that it's a good thing it was, because the whole thing was booty. it sounded like the whole band spent all of three hours rehearsing in between spliffs. lots of ugly backstage crap involving this tour, to hear my houseguest tell it. george clinton may be a musical pioneer, but his business practices over the years and to this day towards his fellow funkateers have hardly been even-handed. bernie worrell's wife apparently posted the "slave" contract clinton gave to the band members on the One Nation P-Funk message board. and while you can't expect the guy to be a ball of energy at this point in his life, they might as well have erected a statue of him and mounted it onstage for as much as he contributed to the music being performed. i'd suggest passing on this if you can.

and wouldn't you know it, but i still gots a lot of unpacking to do. there will be more updates later, but for now, I gots to jet.
