okay, so i'm not grey yet. i'll talk about this later. before i do, i wanted to share with you the exciting details of my civic duty earlier today.

twas pretty low-key, actually. in an amazing stroke of luck, i was able to walk to my polling place - a true rarity here in LA. there was barely any line when i got there and no pesky "challengers" or lawyers or hasslers like they apparently have in the swing states.

it was held in an elementary school llibrary, where posters of Harry The Dirty Dog and "What I Can Do Instead Of Taking Drugs" art projects greeted our entry. Madeline. Curious George. The Giving Tree. talking birds and tiny hippos wearing bow ties gathered around our voting booths as we made our decisions regarding indian casinos, stem cell research, dna profiling and of course, our next president.

one little hippo was especially well dressed and looked up at me with big, sad soleful eyes that walter keane could't duplicate. that's when i realized that it was their world, too, and they worry about the young they comfort, and hope there will be future generations to comfort as well. they were there to remind us that we're all still children, and that we have to play nice. otherwise, there won't be any children left to believe in them.

of course, they can't vote. but i did. for them. and for you, too.

i'll tell you, voting in a safe state is pretty nice. kerry's name was the on the top of the ballot list, with bush's column just below the green party.

god, i love california.

now it's done. now that old joe jackson song is going through my head "waaaaaiiittiingg....waaaaaaaaiiittiiiinnngggg... for the verdict."

to be continued...
sfdeep:
i love california too. i used to live in ohio, and now i wish i did just to have been able to vote there. but i'd rather be here, esp. if we get 4 more years of the anti- . . . er, i mean dubya.
