First entry of the new year! I actually have no idea what this is going to be about as I start. Hmm.

See, the weather's..... not actually "nice" today, but better. It's not raining, but the cloud layer is making it warm enough to sit outside. As it happens, something I really enjoy on a Sunday afternoon is sitting outside at this coffee shop, writing stuff for my various blogs. Sometimes, I come up with a subject during the previous week, and use this as an oportunity to write about it. This week.... I got nothin'. So it's a stream-of-consciousness ramble.

Coffee goes super-well with chocolate cake, by the way, and I have that as well. Over the PA, the B-52's are playing. Ain't nothing wrong with that, either.

I got my new guitar, after much anticipation. No photo of me with it this time, but here's the pic from the online store at GuitarFetish.com (free plug!):

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

I can play a couple of simple songs, and I'm having a really good time with it. I can't say that I'm really into music theory or anything, but this seems to be satisfying my artist-screwing around tendencies and my technical/gearhead habits. So that's pretty cool. I'm still not taking lessons: I think part of what killed my interest in keyboard lessons was the obligation to do the practice before the next session. Going through online lessons seems to have eliminated that pressure. I don't HAVE to do shit if I don't feel like it. So now I'm taking it at my speed and just having fun.

Mmmmm. My coffee's kicking in. It feels like my brain's been lubed and is running better. I finished my cake, though. *sniff*. I miss you, cake. I didn't used to drink coffee. A couple of years ago, before my current full-time employment, I was in the Red Cross, and went to Austin, TX for some training. I caught something on the plane and spent much of the week sick. I could have blown off the coursework, but that would have benefited nobody, really. So I went anyway. Darned if drinking a whole bunch of a stimulant didn't help.

Okay, time to bring this babble to a close. I'm feeling good about the new year. I don't know what's going to happen, but it feels like a new game. The gameboard's been set up and I have a good starting position to play from. Roll the dice.

Man, that's such a cheesy way to end that. Seriously, could I stretch that metaphor any more? I still haven't quite got the hang of writing a good closing.
