The Flogging Will Continue Until Morale Improves

I am slowly picking up speed on the Orals readings. And amazingly enough, some of this stuff turns out to not be as boring as I thought. I just plowed through Rowley and Middleton's play, The Changeling, and while it was not at all thrilling to read, in the process of jotting down some notes on it, I realized that it's actually a fabulously complex and interesting work. Thank god for critical introductions, eh? I wish I had thought of all that stuff myself. I guess someday I'll think smart thoughts?

I keep resolving to retreat into my autism and avoid people, and I keep emerging from my shell, only to get somewhat baffled once again. It's interesting how much of what we think is our understanding of the world and other people is really an illusion that we maintain by something like self-confidence. I lack the resolve to maintain it, is the thing. I find myself looking at the same set of facts in 6 different ways over the course of a day, and alternatey being on cloud 9 or being rather sad or really not giving a shit. And who knows what the other participant in the events is thinking. So I'm appreciating the moments as they come and trying not to think about them too much.

Go vote tommorrow. I am hoping I don't get turned away; I wasn't really on the ball for this whole registration thingy. But I figured if they let me vote 2 years ago, they'll do it again. I try to pretend like I don't give a shit, and had even told people I just wasn't gonna vote, and then I smacked myself upside the head. And proceeded to do a cursory amount of research into what I'll actually be voting for. Incidentally, do yourself a favor, and try to get some information on the circuit court judges whose retentions you're voting on. It's absolutely tragic to me that people apparently blindly vote to retain judges despite the fact that the American Bar Association, for instance, conducts a rigorous screening process that often finds judges inadequate. If you're voting in Chicago, you can get some info here..

Anyhow, back to work with me.
