Animal story, part 2.

So in 2017 we moved to Berlin together with Bela, our 1-st dog. And to 2018 we were like: "OMG we have such a huge apartment and good life, why don't we give a home to one more dog in need? And Bela seems to be bored in the company of only these foolish humans". And we decided to adopt a 2-nd dog!

We were looking through many internet-sites dedicated to shelter dogs. We considered adopting a dog from Russia or from poorer EU countries like Romania. We were discussing it, looking at photos of the dogs and so on. But one day we just ran across the web-site of a private dog hotel+shelter in Kremen (a small city close to Berlin). We knew of its existence because they have a hotel for dogs and we left Bela there while we were on vacation.

On this site we found a post saying they have a few new sledge dogs in need of forever home because of bankruptcy of an organization where they were working. Mostly these dogs were not young. And they worked all their lives long - they were pulling a sledge. To entertain humans.

We couldn't take our eyes of Iron, a 9 years old husky-samoyed mix with amber eyes and ivory fur. We went there to get to know him. And we fell in love. He was 1 year older than Bela, also in good health, and she liked him as well. And we adopted him, that's it. We love him a lot, though his life mostly remains a mystery for us. He doesn't talk, which is sad. I am sure he's got a lot of stories to tell. We adopted a senior dog with an unknown destiny. His passport was given to him in Hungary when he was 3 years old. But where he was born? We don't know. How did he end up in this organization? Did he ever have loving owners? We don't know.

He is gonna be 11 this year. He is in perfect health and very active. He and Bela are best friends. But sometimes his amber eyes sparkle with mysterious sadness. What has he been through? He won't tell us. We do everything to make him happy. He is very socialized and has no problem getting along with any people. But on the other hand, there is some dignity deep inside him, and he keeps his distance with everyone. Even us.

There were always dogs in my family. I grew up with a dog and I can't live without them. I am also fine with cats, but I never had my own. But I am getting along with the cats of my friends and neighbors very well. Yes. I lived with cats for up to 2 months. But those were not my cats)

I will always only take shelter dogs. I am not a fan of breeding and making business like that. There are so many amazing dogs in need of home out there.
