ABOUT TODAY'S PERISCOPE : WHAT IS A "FOUEE" (FRENCH FOOD) ?

Hi everyone !

First of all, thanks for your support, you are more and more following me and I'm really happy so thank you :)

Today I made a little periscope (my ID : @ilosiskin) to talk about a food speciality of my region (west of France, in the Loire Valley), that is called a "fouée". I hadn't a lot of time to explain what it is because I had to work after that (I'm a waitress/caterer as an extra job) so I talked in french in my video, but I'll explain you in english here :)

(as you can guess, I'm a food lover and I really like to cook :) )

So, what is a "fouée" ?

A "fouée" is a little hot bread, it's cooked in a wood fired oven (between 300 and 350 celcius degrees). It is a hollow bread, you eat it when it's still hot and you can put salty or sweet food in it.

As it is a speciality of the "Anjou" (a lot of french kings lived here), generaly we put other specilities in it, that's why it's so typical and appreciated :)

What are these specialities ? :

- "Rillauds" (pieces of pork belly that are cooked with salt, thyme, etc... you can eat it cold in a salad, or hot. It's so good hot, we also cook it in the wood fired oven)

- "Mogettes" (white beans cooked with carrots, herbs and little pieces of bacon)

- Potted pork (and you can sometime find potted tuna and potted salmon)

- Salted butter and parsley butter

- "Galipette farcie", traduced somersault

- Fresh goat cheese

And for the dessert :

- Nutella

- Salted butter fudge

- different kind of jam

- fruits

By the way, what is a "Galipette" ???

It's another typical speciality, it is a mushroom caps, firstly you leave to sweat (putting salt on it and then you put it in the oven), and then you put a little piece of Parsley butter on it and you put it in the wood fired oven. It's delicious eaten directly right out of the oven (but be careful, it's boiling !)

Hope you enjoyed my blog and really, if you have the opportunity, try it because it's delicious !
