Tomorrow ( 20), at the Winter Solstice, we have the longest night of the year. In the mythology of Art, this is the time to celebrate the birth of the Child of Promise, the Reborn Sun that will ward off darkness and bring light, fertility and life back to the world. It is only now, at the darkest point of the Wheel of the Year, that the Light can be reborn and return. What is this sun that is preparing to rise inside your heart?
The word "solstice" is of Latin origin "solstitium" and means anything like standing still. This name is associated with the position of the sun on the horizon, at noon and symbolizes an approach or retreat, throughout the year, which determines the seasons and differences in temperature. On the day the solstice occurs, the sun is at a central point, but far from Earth, marking the shortest day of the year and, consequently, the longest night.
Autumn came with the fruits of our labor, and the winds blew dry leaves away. Everything that was old, unnecessary, useless - or simply that which reached the end of its cycles, because nothing, nothing is eternal - was being carried away by the breath of the Earth. It's time to strip off the past. Some losses are liberating, others are painful. But when the biting winds that heralded winter blow, don't just look at what is gone. And what's left? Trees may lose their leaves and flowers, but the roots remain firm, resting under the sleeping soil. Can you see your roots firm and resistant in the darkest moments?
