This Week (Although its technically last week.)

1. Neptune adventures.
So, Im walking down Highland Ave in No. Hollywood at about 10 pm and this guy rides up on his bike. I pay him no attention but when he passes me he says Hey, boy. Now where Im from Hey and boy put together are fighting words so I turn around to see if he was talking to me. He was. Whats weird about this guy is that he was dressed up exactly like Pharrell Williams. And hes riding a bike. (anyone whos seen the video for Provider knows what Im talking about.) A few seconds after him comes an asian kid that looks exactly like Chad Hugo! (I swear to Mohammed and Allah!) It turns out that they wanted to invite me to some club. (A gay club I presume because they seemed a little... you know.) I declined and when one about my business. They in turn did the same. What if it really was the Neptune's and I missed the chance to party with N. E. R. D. ?

2. Angry old men
Ok, Im helping this guy shop at my job and he keeps picking up things and saying I want this and I want that and he keeps handing me stuff. About this time I realize that hes senile and probably doesnt know where he is. Im not sure what to do so I continue appeasing him. (and wondering if Im on some hidden camera show.) But after about thirty minutes (because he began telling my stories about his friends and his dog and his son and his....) I say fuck it (not verbally) and find a way to slip out. When he saw me with other customers he kept yelling at me to come help him. About an hour later hes still in the store. Hes checking out and hes wondering where his stuff is. I happened to be walking by when someone asked who was helping him. He replied The Black boy. Everyone around him looked horrified. Only I dont think they were really horrified. I think they just felt they had to be because they thought I would be offended if they werent offended. (Ive just gone cross-eyed.) So everyone begins to overreact. Not in front of the customer but in front of me. I cant believe he said that. I refuse to help him. I got your back. Im going to file a report to make sure he never gets in here again. You know, stuff like that. The truth is that I couldnt care less what this old guy said. True, the guy ((senile or not) was a prick but Im from the south, youll have to do better than that if you want to offend me. And you know what? Everyone still helped him with his $300 purchase. And no report was filed. The truth is, no one really gave a shit.

3. Anything can happen
Sometimes I want the courage to talk to complete strangers. I was at the bus stop late at night in downtown LA. A transvestite is sitting on the bench next to me. He (she) has the most somber look on his (her) face. Like he (she) was the only friend he (she) had in the world. i wanted to ask him (her) how his (her) life had come to this. if he (she) knew his (her) parents. What was his (her) story. But I didnt. Maybe I should have. Whats the worse that can happen? A lot in downtown L A at 2 am.

all right, underground climber this is the new line up

Carlin did a book-reading here yesterday... since his book is his act, that basically means he was doing a free performance... but I know the Courthouse Olsson's bookstore, it is fucking tiny, and you had to go get tickets at 8 am for his appearance at 7... I'm not a fan of the mobbed, overcrowded difficult book-signing.

Still kinda wish I'd gone, though.

re: work- If we had the right to not serve people on the basis that they're assholes, who'd ever get served?
