I was walking to the video store and I was thinking of all the people I've idolized. People I looked up to for their kindness; Johnny Depp, Sid Meier, Moby; People with no problems of their own who start charities, like Gregory Peck. I want to be known for my kindness. I want a statue of me to be made someday. In fact, not even that much. I just want to live in people's minds for acts of good will.

Someone at Oak Grove asked me if I had a quarter, last week. I reached into my pocked while saying "I've been in the same situation a million times..." (which I have). I figured he needed to make a phone call. I handed him 50 cents, and he was happy as could be. He shook my hand and went on his way...

I love helping people, and I love teaching them. The thought of being a teacher is not appealing to me, though. I'd be a nice teacher, which means I'd be taken advantage of by every class. I'd rather be a favorite substitute....

helping others does make a person feel good. i use to be a part of food not bombs when i was living in cali. i met a lot of kewl homeless people who had stories to tell that i will never forget. My husband and i also started a local ARA group ( anti racist action) . I have a feeling that the group is no longer around since we moved.
As for people that I look up to, it's not really for their kindness it's more for what they did. I look up to Bobby Sands and the rest of the 1981 Irish Hunger Strikers. Part of it is for what they did but another part has to do with my husband being related to 3 of them. They died for what they believed in and for the freedom of their country, it's hard not too look up to somebody like that.
i had to edit this cause i was doing some more thinking about your journal entry and it made me think of something . u spoke of people u admire for their acts of kindness. i gave it some thought and the one person who came to my mind was my birthmother. she did one of the hardest acts of kindness that a mother could do by giving me up for adoption so i could have a better life . one that she couldn't provide for me since she was very young . for many mothers who have to go through this it;s more then just hard. u are giving up a piece of u and your life to strangers. not only do i look at it as an act of kindness i look at it as an act of love.
