IKA No 13: but seiji adds PLUS +666 for "killing stuff with sword" skills

Xandar42: I doubt that.

IKA No 13: how come?

Xandar42: +666 is way too high.

Xandar42: In any system I know anyway.

IKA No 13: its an ENTIRELY NEW SYSTEM!

IKA No 13: its D200!

Xandar42: Hm.

Xandar42: +666 is still pretty danged high.

IKA No 13: if you wanna make a concentration check you have to roll FIFTY d20s!!!

Xandar42: That would be d2000

Xandar42: I mean d1000

IKA No 13: yup

IKA No 13: they just CALL it d200

IKA No 13: its a metaphor

Xandar42: Well, no

Xandar42: It still wouldn't be d1000

IKA No 13: well YEAH

IKA No 13: exactly!

IKA No 13: it'd be d200!

Xandar42: It wouldn't be that either.

Xandar42: That's not a metaphor, it's just wrong.

IKA No 13: nope

IKA No 13: its right

IKA No 13: i made the system, i make the rules

Xandar42: But the phrase "dx" has an accepted meaning in the realm of RPGs. You can make the rules however you like, but to say that your system is d200 is simply inaccurate. It'd be like calling the rulebook a milk jug. It's just wrong.

IKA No 13: thats just SILLY

IKA No 13: my rulebook is known as the HELM OF ARCANE HELM LORE and it is about hats!

Xandar42: But it's not a helm.

Xandar42: It's a book.

IKA No 13: its BOTH

Xandar42: I doubt it.

IKA No 13: yes sir!

IKA No 13: you can wear it on your head and EVERYTHING!

Xandar42: Well then, it is.

Xandar42: But.

Xandar42: That doesn't change the fact that the system can't be based on a 50-1000 system and still be referred to as d200.

IKA No 13: can too

Xandar42: Well, I mean, it can be, in the same sense that the rule book can be referred to as a milk jug. But it can't be accurately referred to as d200.

IKA No 13: but that's its name

IKA No 13: you technically aren't a "ross" as a "ross" is a shrubbery!

Xandar42: Ross also means promontory.

IKA No 13: you are not a promontory OR a shrubbery!

Xandar42: In 1160, a dude named Malcolm decided that since he lived near a well-known promontory, he was going to start going by Malcolm O'Ross

Xandar42: So at its inception, the name was a useful descriptor.

Xandar42: And an accurate one.

Xandar42: Unlike d200, which is pure deception.

IKA No 13: but you are not a promontory, or a shrubbery

IKA No 13: its not deception, because you need lots of d200's to play with!!!

Xandar42: In the realm of proper names, it's understood that family names refer to something that was once a relevant descriptor, and there is no linguistic expectation that that relevancy continues.

Xandar42: In the realm of RPGs, there is a linguistic expectation about the meaning of the phrase d200.

IKA No 13: well my name used to refer to a relevant descriptor too!

Xandar42: How so?

IKA No 13: we USED to only have a d200 system, but now we use FIFTY D20's FOR EVERY ROLL!

IKA No 13: but the name stuck

Xandar42: That's a blatant lie.

IKA No 13: nuh uhhhh

Xandar42: You just made the system up now.

Xandar42: Besides which, like I said, whether we like it or not, there are sets of linguistic expectations which allow language to function.

IKA No 13: no way jose!

Xandar42: It's expected that names lose their significance as relevant descriptors.

Xandar42: It's not expected in the RPG community that a phrase like d200 will be used as an irrelevant proper name, and it's therefore inaccurate.

IKA No 13: but its STORIED and HISTORICAL!

Xandar42: No it's not.

IKA No 13: my RPG system has been around since time itself!

Xandar42: You just made it up.

IKA No 13: prove it.

Xandar42: In fact, you didn't even make it up.

Xandar42: You just made up the fact that it's based on a 50-1000 system.

IKA No 13: i didn't make it up coz its been SO STORIED AND HISTORICAL ITS BEEN AROUND SINCE TIME BEGAN!

IKA No 13: in the land of the lost! sleestaks invented it!

Xandar42: That's not true at all.

IKA No 13: is so.

Xandar42: IKA No 13: i made the system, i make the rules

Xandar42: IKA No 13: its an ENTIRELY NEW SYSTEM!

IKA No 13: its D200!

IKA No 13: alex, i have a confession

IKA No 13: i am a sleestak

IKA No 13: and we have no concept of space or time

IKA No 13: for we are all knowing and all seeing

IKA No 13: just like in V

Xandar42: Do you eat mice?

IKA No 13: that was inaccurate. we only eat newborn babies. and chicken and candy.

Xandar42: Damn.

IKA No 13: see? caught you in your WEB OF LIES AND DECEIT!

Xandar42: Huh?

Xandar42: You tell me you're a sleestak that's invented a stupidly named RPG and I'm the one caught in a web of lies?

IKA No 13: yes sir i do. or should i say...LIE-KING!

Xandar42: Thou make no sense.

IKA No 13: THOU makes no sensible sense, sirrah!

IKA No 13: HAVE AT THEE, KNAVE!

Xandar42: I make all the sense in the world.

IKA No 13: not as much sense as me

IKA No 13: i make MORE sense

Xandar42: By which I mean that I personally designed and constructed the very concept and being of sense.

IKA No 13: i designed the concept of chaos.

Xandar42: I wouldn't doubt it.

demoivre:
I dm'd a DND 3rd ed campaign wherein the characters were mostly high-level magic-users. They spent all of their time making magic items that gave them virtually 50 d20 on any and every roll. I'm not kidding. Funny thing is, they spent so much time making magic items that the bad guys--Arioch and the Lords of Chaos--were able to take over the world. Silly mages.
