My favorite song

To be honest, I didn't have to think long and hard on this one. When I first saw the 'assignment' I thought I would have to. Music has been such an integral part of my life for so very long. It was an outlet for me at a time when I felt completely powerless and continues to this day to be a very important part of my life. I mean, it was so important to me that I decided to major in song writing when I was in college.

But it just came to me, my favorite song. I can't say it's been my favorite song since my teenage years. In fact, I hadn't listened to the band LCD Soundsystem until 2010 when I heard it on the radio at a store I worked at. But the first time I heard the song I stopped what I was doing to listen to it. Later on at home I downloaded the album and every other album by the band. I was enamored with all the songs. They're either funny, tongue in cheek and satirical, or very heart felt. But the lyrics combined with the building up and tearing down of the chord progression really got to me, especially the line that goes:

"But when we're running out of the drugs, And the conversation's grinding away, I wouldn't trade one stupid decision for another five years of life."

That lyric speaks volumes to me. It reminds me of all the times I've been up until dawn higher than the satellites closing the blinds and covering the windows with heavy blankets so that we didn't have to admit another day is beginning, our noses numb yet throbbing at the same time.

And you know what? As miserable as I was I wouldn't take any of it back.

So here you have it, "All My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem. Please, take some time out and give it a listen.

@catdad, it is repetitive, but with each repetition it builds and builds more and more, not unlike Ravels 'Bolero'. Each time you listen to it you discover a new layer that had been added onto the previous ones. And I actually never did drugs while listening to this song. My drug days were over long before this came out!
