1. I don't kill spiders. If I find them in my house or place of work I gently catch them and set them outside. My mother instilled this in me. "They eat the bad bugs," she always said. In fact, I saw one scurry across my kitchen floor this morning while I was eating my oatmeal and having my tea. I said hello to it and let it go on its merry way. I was too tired to try to catch her.
2. Cigarettes and cigarette butts gross me the fuck out. Ashtrays have the power to make me vomit. Even typing the word 'cigarette' gives me the willies. So it should be obvious now why I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. I've done many of the drugs in the vast cornucopia of intoxicants, but never have I taken in nicotine in any form. I watched my mother struggle with smoking, and she still struggles with it, which I think is why it's such a turn off for me. Also, the smell gives me a massive headache.
3. I am a very routine oriented person. For example, I park in the same parking spot in the lot at work every day. If a car is already in that spot I feel off for the rest of the day. Luckily, I get to work pretty early so the likelihood of that happening is slim to none. But seriously, fuck up my routine and be prepared for a very scatter brained and grouchy Iggy.
4. I was homeless during the summer of 2004. If any one of you remembers me from back then you'll remember I was a bit of a couch surfer.
5. While I love to read, it takes me a very long time to finish a book. You see, when I look at the page the words get all scrambled and my mind wanders a bit. It's part of being bipolar. To counter this, I usually have to take a blank sheet of paper and put it under every single line I'm reading so that I don't go back and read the same line or paragraph over and over again.
6. I don't like brunch. It's just not satisfying. However, I do enjoy mimosas.
7. I have to fall asleep with the TV on. My mind is far too loud to be able to fall asleep in silence. I need something to muffle the loudness of my thoughts. I also can't fall asleep unless I take something. If I didn't take anything I would be up for days on end.
8. I've been riding horses for over twenty years.
9. I've been to Europe, but have never been to California.
10. I'm deathly afraid of fire. I can't even use a regular lighter to light my candles. In fact, I can't even actually get one of those lighters to work I am so afraid. I have to use one of those long ones that keep the flame as far from me as possible. I also refuse to use an outdoor grill and tend to not like fire places.
So there you have it. Ten completely random facts about me. No doubt some of them will surprise many of you.
