Some people use St. Patricks Day as an excuse to get drunk on a weekday. It is these sorts of people that keep me in on St. Paddys. You see, I don't need an excuse to get drunk and prefer not to indulge in negative Irish stereotypes. I haven't been out on St. Patricks Day in many years. Instead, I prefer to sit home and drink Guinness and good whiskey. I also like to think about how, against all odds, the Irish people managed to achieve independence. They didn't let their language die, despite the efforts of the English. I think about how my ancestors suffered through the famine to come here, only to be discriminated against.
I think about how beautiful Ireland is. I think about how lovely the people are there.
This year, however, I may be venturing out. Perhaps here down south St. Paddys isn't the over priced puke fest shit show it is up north.
