So, I know that I had previously been absent for a few years due to some personal business, but I see a lot of people complaining about the new set up of the site. They say it's harder to navigate and that it seems stripped down. Well, I've been an SG since 2004. I've seen the site go through many changes in order to stay relevant in our incredibly fickle and technologically fast paced culture. I remember back in 2008 or 2009 the site went through a major overhaul and all people did was complain. They said it resembled Facebook too much.
Some are saying that keeping up with those that you follow became hard work when the re-vamped site went live, others are saying that it seems more mainstream or sterile. And yes, re-learning how to navigate the site did take a bit of effort. It isn't like it was before. But I still managed to figure it out. The only thing I really miss is the chat feature. I had a lot of fun on that back in the day. I'm hoping it's brought back.
I guess what I am trying to say is that the site is what we all make of it. And the days of MySpace and LiveJournal are gone and are never coming back. So really, I'm not surprised that the site made itself over again in order to better accommodate mobile users because, let's face it, that's how most people are doing their internetting these days.
Also, people in general don't like change, especially when it happens to something that's so familiar to them. So when people complain about the little changes in life I usually just take it all with a grain of salt.
So cheer up, buttercup!
