Yesterday was a glorious day!
Alestorm, Suidakra, and Tyr. Could you ask for anything else?
Jamie came to pick me up with a carload of people. I had to sit between two 'mini-giants' as I called it.. very squishy in the back, and a hurtin' hour drive to Toronto.
We park outside of The Opera House, and what is it I see? Jamie pull out a 40 of Captain Morgan.
"In celebration of us seeing Alestorm!"
If you don't know Alestorm, it is a pirate metal band
, and one of their songs is called Captain Morgan's Revenge..
So we get drunk. Quite obvious...
Opening bands, Death March and another band.. I don't know what their name is, but the lead guitar was some chick who, I guess, tried to look like an elf. She was really fucking good.
Death March..heh... now, if anyone ever sees them, which I highly doubt, that is possibly the worst portrayal of the Hamilton metal scene. They're bad. I remember the singer coming to local shows at The Home and The Underground with an anti nazi patch on his coat, yet wear red laces on his docs. I KNOW RIGHT.
I kept flipping him off the whole time. Apparently he recognized me, but that's hardly something to brag about.
Aaaaaaanyway... my friends and I were fortunate enough to be right up against the stage, literally at the foot of the band members, right in the center. Suidakra, fuck is that singer ever hot. They were amazing. Bought some new gear of theirs.. on the back it states "I only answer with my blade." Tough as shit, I say!
Steve kept going to the bar, ordering like..4 beers, and sneaking them back to us in the front since there was only one designated area for drinking. I love Steve. :>
I don't even know how to describe Alestorm. The energy I felt during their set, especially during the songs Nancy the Tavern Wench and Wenches and Mead, was almost comparable to seeing Blind Guardian... ALMOST, since no man nor beast could measure up to Blind Guardian..
These guys only have one album out, and they act like they've made 7. Got to chat with the singer while Tyr was playing. Cool fucking guy, and awesome accent.
Just wish I had my sketch book.
!!!!
Tyr.. I like them. They're good, but after Alestorm, I was wiped out. Ended up having a couple beers and hanging out with my friend who looks straight out of Finland. Hottest guy I've ever met in my life.
Super long blog, amirite? Here's a couple pictures of us before and after.
