The Sahara desert is one of the harshest environments know to man. It is the largest desert in the world. It is extremely hot during the day, and below freezing after sundown. Rain and water are scarce, lizards and scary bugs are a-plenty.
You must be mad to go there, right? Even more mad to stay there for 4 days, yes? And a total looney bin to trek across it as far as you can manage without dying of tiredness, hunger, thirst, and the heat.
Yup. I am a looney bin. Next month, between 13th and 17th November, I am going to do just that. Why? For Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Marie Curie is a wonderful charity. Their focus is to provide end-of-life care to terminally ill cancer patients, if possible, in their home. I am doing this specifically with the Edinburgh hospice, although Marie Curie nurses travel all over for their patients.
I decided to do this at the beginning of the year for many reasons. One was selfish - I wanted to set myself a challenge. A big one. But less selfishly, I wanted other people to benefit from it. What spurred me on was the fact that I have known so many people who have died through this terrrible illness, and some were very good friends. When I go, I will wear a t-shirt with the names of those lost loved ones - Uncle John, Caroline Malkin, and Bob Cameron. I will also have Uncle Thomas' name there, who has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer, but who I so so hope will still be here when I do the trek. So when I am exhausted, my feet are aching, my back is killing me from carrying a huge backpack, and I feel I might actually die from the heat, I will remember those people, and I will keep going.
If you would like to show your support, there are a few things you can do....
1. You can be a La Monde, Edinburgh in the evening of 5th November and buy some of my handcrafted goodies, the profits for which are all going to the charity;
2. You can pay 8 and come along to the ceilidh on 23rd October at St Bryde's Auditorium, Edinburgh;
3. You can sponsor me on my just giving website, here.
I know money is tight and we are all feeling the pinch, but I really would appreciate your help. After all, I am still doing this and still trying to help other people when I have lost so much lately........to the extend I am having to give up my home and move back in with my parents
So please please help me do this, I need all the support I can get.

I can deal with folk letting me down, I just dont want to end up in the place where I expect it again.
I've worked hard to try and be positive.
