I suppose I have resolutions of some sort as well.

I plan to get some stability. I lived in 4 different places in 2008: lease ending, apartment being sold and evicted. I want to stay put, because moving is both expensive and time consuming, and takes up a lot of energy that could be better directed towards things like uni, running a business, or music.

I plan to make myself better off financially. I am off to a good start. Not a perfect one, but a good one. My family home was sold and my mother lent me some money to pay out some credit cards. I was so excited to clear them up and cut the cards up. I payed off a bunch of bills that got neglected over Christmas and I bought myself some flights to Brisbane for when I go down for Soundwave. I still have one card that I owe quite a bit on and the bank denied me a balance transfer. Maybe I'll go back in a couple of months when I can prove I earn enough money.

Which I will do, as I just got a second job. It's hardly glamorous, but I figured that it was no big deal as I am still a student and it doesn't really matter what I do until after I've finished my degree, as long as I'm earning money. That, and I still need to be able to work at night around my classes. It's especially good because my direct boss is a friend of mine and will give me the shifts I desire.

When I went in to Video Ezy and told them I would only be available 2 nights a week, my manager got a bit bitchy. She said I was required to be available for a certain amount of hours or days or something like that, and that "they tried to give me extra shifts but I turned them down". This is bullshit on two levels. One, I had declared myself fully available once I'd finished with classes and yet was still only getting 2 shifts a week anyway. I was floundering and barely making ends meet. I turned down one shift because I had meetings with a financial adviser and other plans for various other things (being on-call is SHIT because you're basically expected to make no plans at any point during the day on the odd chance you'll be called in to work. I'd rather just be rostered on as that way I knew that between certain hours I could do what I wanted). One shift. Too little too late, bitchface.

Better pay. Pretty stoked to not really deal with customers too.

I plan to make the business better by putting on fewer gigs, but making them better quality. Our original plan was to have at least one gig a week, and eventually build up different crowds of people and be able to have 2-3 a week. We essentially have the same people at every show though and we're over-killing the whole thing. I want to streamline it down to having say 3 a month: an all-ages show, one at the university (they pay us a flat rate and out of that all we have to do is book the bands and promote the show - bands get paid and we don't have to take money for entry or take care of sound) and one big show at our regular venue. Charge more for entry and have touring bands each time.

Buckle down and do well at uni. I'm a fairly typically bad student in that I don't study and I do my assignments the night before. A lot of my stuff is group-based and I'm forced to show progress because they tend to have a peer-assessment section in the marking of them. I don't want any extra time added on to my degree because I don't really want to be here but I have to stay and follow this through. A lot of students get better marks than I do, not because they're smarter than I am, but because they work harder. I rest on my laurels and get by by not trying. Time to TRY.

I'll also need to find another musical outlet. Finally, after a million line-up changes, the band will part ways for good as the only other foundation member is moving to Brisbane, as is our current drummer. So vocals and bass can't really get by on our own. We could form a new band but it would be an entirely different one as Mr. Guitarist wrote the majority of our stuff. But I'm writing, and I got a new guitar for Christmas. So here's hoping new opportunities come along. But since I pretty much run the music scene I think I will be able to find some people to play with. I always do. But they're usually uncommitted and in other bands. Very annoying.

I must sleep. I may blog more often because I really enjoy reading over my old blogs and taking stock of where I've come from. It's more fun for me to re-read them than to write them now.

Toodaloo.
